Oscar Grant Killer Johannes Mehserle Faces Civil Suit For Police Brutality

Jury selection began Monday in a federal civil rights case brought by a man who said he was roughed up by former BART police officer Johannes Mehserle in 2009. The incident allegedly took place just seven weeks before Mehserle would go on to shoot Oscar Grant.

Mehserle, 29, served just under one year of a two-year sentence for involuntary manslaughter in the shooting of Grant, who was unarmed and killed on New Year’s Day. The “San Francisco Chronicle” reports Mehserle plans to attend the trial and testify that he acted to protect a fellow officer.

Now, Grant’s fried, Johntue Caldwell who saw him killed has been murdered in a Hayward gas station parking lot. Caldwell, 25, suffering from gunshot wounds in a car sitting in the parking lot of a gas station at West Tennyson Road and Calaroga Avenue at around 5:30 p.m.

Charles Hill, a 45 year old man was fatally shot in San Francisco by Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) police on 4th of July weekend on Sunday night. Two officers responding to a report of a “wobbly drunk” shot Hill in the torso when officials say he came at them with a knife.

A rally of protesters of about 100 protesters gathered Monday afternoon on the same platform at the Civic Center/UN Plaza station where Charles Hill was slain.
