Oscar Grant Killer Johannes Mehserle Faces Civil Suit For Police Brutality

Jury selection began Monday in a federal civil rights case brought by a man who said he was roughed up by former BART police officer Johannes Mehserle in 2009. The incident allegedly took place just seven weeks before Mehserle would go on to shoot Oscar Grant.

Mehserle, 29, served just under one year of a two-year sentence for involuntary manslaughter in the shooting of Grant, who was unarmed and killed on New Year’s Day. The “San Francisco Chronicle” reports Mehserle plans to attend the trial and testify that he acted to protect a fellow officer.

Bay Area Man Oscar Grant Slain by BART Police, Now His Friend Shot to Death

This is not good news. The unarmed young man Oscar Grant that was shot by BART police in 2009 made headlines and a huge uproar in Oakland California when the cop only spent 1 year in prison for murder. Now, Grant’s fried, Johntue Caldwell who saw him killed has been murdered in a Hayward gas station parking lot. Caldwell, 25, suffering from gunshot wounds in a car sitting in the parking lot of a gas station at West Tennyson Road and Calaroga Avenue at around 5:30 p.m.

Another Fatal Shooting by BART Officers Spark Protesters to Shut Down Train Stations

Charles Hill, a 45 year old man was fatally shot in San Francisco by Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) police on 4th of July weekend on Sunday night. Two officers responding to a report of a “wobbly drunk” shot Hill in the torso when officials say he came at them with a knife.

A rally of protesters of about 100 protesters gathered Monday afternoon on the same platform at the Civic Center/UN Plaza station where Charles Hill was slain.

Oakland Mother Gets $1.3 Million From Bart for Oscar Grant’s Murder

In Oakland, Ca., a San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit agency has agreed with to pay $1.3 million dollars to the mother of a 22-year-old unarmed black man who was fatally shot by a white transit officer in 2009.

Newsone.com reported, this settlement resolves a $50 million wrongful death and civil rights suit filed in federal court by Oscar Grant’s family between Bay Area Rapid Transit and mother Wanda Johnson.

Cop Convicted of Killing Oscar Grant Released and Infuriates Oakland Citizens

A former BART transit cop for Oakland, Ca. was convicted of killing unarmed man, Oscar Grant is now released after spending 1 year in prison. Johannes Mehserle is a free man though he was sentenced to two years for involuntary manslaughter. The sentencing for killing an unarmed man was an insult to the citizens of Oakland but he received one day of good conduct credit for each of the 365 days he served behind bars. (Not sure we have heard of that for such a short sentence in the first place).
