We felt the need to expand this subject especially today as gospel music has evolved in something much more than just ‘singing’. Gospel music has turned into a industry of hefty money makers and revolutionaries. Though many artists from the early 1960′s and earlier sang gospel music because they ‘love the Lord’, grew up in the church and wanted to spread the gospel, it quickly turned into a money making machine that created more than just records. The gospel music industry became a way of expressing the views of society both political and sexual. Let’s speak on the sexual part because this is what is taking over our society today through homosexuality and gay rights.

We’ve had this weighing heavy on our hearts when it comes to gospel artists from yesteryear and the impact it has on our generation today. When we speak of our generation, we do mean for all of us living today not just for the young folk, as some may believe.

Apparently, there has been misjudgement passed about singer Fantasia and her personal life with her boyfriend and expecting baby on the way. The Mahalia Jackson family has apologized for statements made about her not being fit for the role. Now, we can see how their alleged alternate choice being Missy Elliot seemed totally farfetched.

Aretha Franklin Intends to Block Release of ‘Amazing Grace’ Documentary

News reports say Aretha Franklin is trying to block the release of “Amazing Grace,” the documentary film by the late Sydney Pollack on the making of her live gospel album of the same name. The film by Warner Bros. has been unseen for 39 years. One of our staff members has in position a copy of the dynamic gospel album and found out from the album’s 27 page booklet, that the film was to be released in 1972 but was not. At this time, no one knows for sure why Aretha Franklin wants the film blocked. According to TMZ, her attorney Alan Reed intends to seek an injunction preventing the film’s release. They say the film’s producer Alan Elliott wants to release it this year and claims the soul diva’s permission is required before the film can be rolled out.

Gospel Queen Albertina ‘Tina’ Walker Ascended at 81

News reports state the ultimate Queen of Gospel, singer Albertina Walker as ascended to heaven at age 81 Friday. Albertina Walker affectionately nicknamed as ‘Tina’ to those who were close to her. She died of respiratory failure in a Chicago hospital. She had been hospitalized since August, while battling emphysema.

Albertina was the  youngest of nine children and born in 1929 in Chicago. She started singing at age four at her family church at Chicago’s West Point Baptist Church.
