Former Rapper G. Dep AKA Trevell Coleman Convicted and Faces 15 Years in 1993 Murder

CBS News reports:

Rapper G. Dep was convicted Tuesday in a 1993 murder to which he suddenly confessed in 2010, stunning police.

Born Trevell Coleman, G. Dep, 37, faces at least 15 years in prison at his sentencing, set for May 8.

G.Dep’s attorney Anthony Ricco questioned whether police had made the right match. He noted discrepancies between G. Dep’s statement and Henkel’s shooting – including that the rapper said he thought the shooting happened in February or March, rather than the fall, and described the victim as blond and clean-shaven when Henkel had brown hair and wore facial hair.

Back in 2010, we reported that the former Bad Boy artist G-Dep walked into a police station and confessed to a 17 year old. Rapper G-Dep, born as Trevell Coleman, was stricken with guilt for nearly 17 years and had to come clean as he says, “it was eating at me all this time”.

When G-Dep decided to confess to the shooting of John Henkel on Oct. 19, 1993, he was not expecting the authorities to tell him that Henkel had died from the shooting incident.

Coleman just recently confessed to a shooting of another man that he was involved in over 17 years ago.
