    New MLK Statue to Replace White Supremacist Tom Watson

    The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., one of the country’s most lauded citizens, will be finally honored by his home state with a sculpture on its capitol grounds.

    Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal and Rep. Calvin Smyre (D-Columbus) announced this week that the state has selected artist Andy Davis to create the piece. The sculpture will be placed on the northeast quadrant of the Capitol grounds overlooking Liberty Plaza, replacing a likeness of 19th century politician and newspaperman Tom Watson, a white supremacist. Watson’s statute was removed from the Georgia Capitol lawn in November 2013, reports local station WMAZ-13.

    Dexter Scott King, the second son of civil rights leader the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King, has listed his dramatic contemporary house in Malibu for sale at $4.85 million.

    The ocean-view house sits behind gates on more than an acre of lushly landscaped grounds. Garden paths traverse the property, which includes mature palm trees and more than a dozen fruit trees.

    At least they are agreeing to settle this once and for all. We shall see if they do so before going to court on some of the other issues they have pending.

    WXIA Atlanta reports:

    The estate of Martin Luther King Jr. has dropped a lawsuit against the King Center days before the trial was set to begin.

    The dispute over some of the civil rights icon’s prized possessions, which was filed in 2013, had pitted King’s two sons against the King Center, which is headed by King’s daughter Bernice.

    UPDATE on July 27, 2013: Somehow we missed this information although AT2W was not blogging back then. In 2008, this news was reported that Martin Luther King III was already married in 2006 but it was done secretly. Here’s the report  from 2008 about when they announced it:

    The day before celebrities and dignitaries traveled to Atlanta to celebrate the birth of Dr. King, his oldest son Martin Luther King III officially announced his marriage to Arndrea Waters. The couple who are expecting their first child this Spring, announced their 2 year old union at the After Glow reception for the Salute to Greatness Awards Ceremony at the ritzy Hyatt Regency Atlanta.

    Black Preacher’s Journeys Discussed in Documentary ‘The Scrolls’ for the 21 Century

    The documentary which is shown in four part series, The Scroll “chronicles the faith journeys of prominent African-American pastors, ministers, and faith leaders.”

    The filmmaker Parrish Smith had a desire to highlight the gifted storytelling of pastors and ministers and to interview some of the 21st century’s highest-profile ministers, evangelists, and church leaders, examining the journeys of faith, hope, and perseverance that led these individuals to the positions of positive influence they now today in the documentary.
    According to the Urban Daily, “THE SCROLL: Evidence of Life Unseen” premiered this Sunday, Feb. 3  on the ASPiRE network, a newly launched television network by Magic Johnson Enterprises. The remaining parts of the documentary will be air at 8 p.m. on the following Sundays: February 10th, February 17th, and February 24th.

    On April 17, 2009 at Convocation, North America’s largest weekly gathering of Christian students, Reverend Bernice King, daughter of the late Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke about the need for kings on earth. King spoke about how all Christians are representatives of God and need to speak up to ensure His message is heard.
