A New Texas Law Is Making Wrongly Convicted Exonerees Instant Millionaires

As we know, the blessing of DNA evidence has freed a lot of prisoners over the past 10 years.   There are people who were wrongly convicted of crimes they did not commit and they served long years in prison for it.  Since September, Texas has made it a law to reward exonerees millions of dollars.  For every year, these freed prisoners will receive $80,000 for every year they served time in prison and will receive between lifetime annuity payments that for most of the wrongly convicted are worth between $40,000 and $50,000, annually.    They will also receive social services, including job training, tuition credits and access to medical and dental treatment.  Although other states pay their exonerees, they have not paid them much as the states of Texas.
