In 1990, when Linda Scruggs, 46, was told she was 13 weeks pregnant and doctors also gave the horrific news that she was HIV positive. In that particular era, AIDS had claimed 100,000 lives in the United States.
She said doctors told her she had the option of terminating the pregnancy to prolong her health and she was offered, with the termination of her birth, five years to live, then they forewarned, “If I did not terminate this baby, probably me and the baby both would be dead within three years.” She was 25 years old at the time.
