Rev. Juan Mcfarland will be Removed as Elected Moderator of 34th-Church Baptist Association

Pastor Juan McFarland is about to lose his job as elected moderator of the 34-church Middle District Missionary Baptist Association Inc.

Firstly, the church voted to oust McFarland as pastor by a vote of 80-2 on Oct. 5. (Court documents say the vote was 80-1.) But McFarland showed up on Oct. 12 to deliver a sermon; the church elders decided not to attend church, and to seek an even more official ouster through court.

Now, McFarland also has official Baptist duties as moderator of the 34-church Middle District Missionary Baptist Association Inc. A moderator helps conduct church business. (The Missionary Baptist churches of Alabama are affiliated with the National Baptist Convention of Nashville, Tenn.)

McFarland’s moderator role will soon end, according to a top official with the Alabama State Missionary Baptist Convention, which Shiloh is affiliated with. Cleveland McFarland, who is not related to Juan McFarland, is the leader of the moderator’s division of the Alabama State Missionary Baptist Convention.

He told AL.com on Wednesday that he asked Pastor Juan McFarland to step down from his duties at Shiloh. He said Juan McFarland informed him he will fight to remain as pastor.

But in the meantime, Cleveland McFarland said the Middle District Missionary Baptist Association will remove Juan McFarland as its multi-church moderator. Cleveland McFarland said Middle District officials are in the process of putting together paperwork to remove Juan McFarland.
