Son of Baptist Minister and College President Commits Suicide

Ergun Caner’s 15-year-old son, Braxton Paige, committed suicide in recent days. Caner is president of Brewton-Parker College in Mount Vernon, Georgia, as well as a well-known Christian author and Baptist minister.

Early on July 30th, Caner posted “1 Thessalonians 4:13-14″ on his Twitter account. The verses, which are about Christians who die before Christ’s return, read: “But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.”

A few hours later, Caner posted the following message as the news broke of his son’s suicide.

According to Brewton-Parker College, the funeral will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, August 2, at New River Fellowship Church, 3252 Interstate 20 Frontage Rd., Hudson Oaks, TX 76087.

His twitter page read this some time after his son’s death:

No words. No sermon. No funny quotes. No answers. No note. Nothing but excruciating pain & the assurance that I’ll see him in Glory
