The Caribbean Community Want Reparations from the Government, Is it a Waste of Time?

Any black folks who know about the fight we had for reparations in this country, know that fighting for it is a waste of time. The government will not pay or repay black folk for anything. We shouldn’t be asking for an apology or anything else when we should be beyond looking for handouts from them. We don’t hear much of that kind of talk in our country anymore because we have to move on and so should the Caribbeans. They will learn it is a losing battle.

Read part of the report below:

Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, one of the region’s most distinguished academics, and perhaps the Caribbean’s most prominent public intellectual, gave a riveting report on the recent work of CARICOM’s Reparations Commission, which he leads.

In the conference room of the Buccament Bay Resort on the Eastern Caribbean island of St. Vincent on March 10, 2014; the occasion—the 25th Inter-Sessional Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community, the CARICOM heads of government then proceeded to unanimously adopt a ten-point program  for reparatory justice for the region.

This breakthrough plan calls for a:

  1. Formal apology for slavery
  2. Repatriation
  3. Indigenous Peoples Development Program
  4. Cultural Institutions
  5. Public Health Crisis
  6. Illiteracy Eradication
  7. African Knowledge Program
  8. Psychological Rehabilitation
  9. Technology Transfer
  10. Debt Cancellation

Good luck with these Caribbean community. You could those programs yourself and keep you dignity.
