Why Hell’s Kitchen Winner Ja’Nel Witt Loses Las Vegas Chef Job

UPDATE on August 29, 2013:

Chef Gordon Ramsay tells TMZ … he isn’t writing off disgraced “Hell’s Kitchen” champ Ja’Nel Witt even after she failed a drug test — “My door is always open.”

But Ramsay says he still believes in Witt’s talent … and yesterday at LAX he told us, “I hope she sorts out her personal issues.”

Original post below from August 25, 2013:

This is horrible news. We caught a few clips of her on the show and she worked so hard to get to the winner’s circle. We can’t believe she allegedly stepped to drugs after such a victory. She was resilient in the cooking competition and literally blew it.

Ja’Nel Witt is the 11the Winner of the Hell’s Kitchen and on her way to a great career with a great job opportunity

“Hell’s Kitchen” champ Ja’Nel Witt tested positive for cocaine … and that’s why she wasn’t allowed to accept the head-chef position at Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant in Vegas … TMZ has learned.

Sources extremely familiar with the situation told TMZ, the Caesars Palace required Witt to submit to a drug test in order to take the job as head chef at the Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill, the position she earned after winning Season 11 of “Hell’s Kitchen” earlier this year.

ITV Studios posted on Twitter last Friday morning to say Witt would not fill the position:

“The team at ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ was incredibly excited about Ja’Nel Witt’s season win, and her opportunity to move in to a head chef position at Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill in Vegas. Recent unforeseen personal circumstances will now unfortunately prevent her from accepting the position, which is a huge disappointment for Ja’Nel and all of us. She’s an incredible talent, and we all wish her much success with the next chapter of her career.”

Ja’Nel Witt also tweeted that afternoon stating:

“I would like to express my sincerest thanks to Hell’s Kitchen, Gordon Ramsay, Caesars Palace & my supportive fans for this amazing experience. Due to personal matters, I will not be joining the team in Las Vegas, but I wish them continued success. This has been an incredible journey. I am thankful for everyone who made it possible and I am looking forward to my next cooking chapter.”]

AT2W’s Take: Sometimes we think TV shows like these are opportunities but even a curse. It really depends on the person who gets the opportunity and how mature they are in receiving it. It seems as though Ja’Nel went out partying and didn’t think, for some reason, they would give a drug test. She probably thought she’d never have any more issues but she was mistaken. We are still not comfortable with the theme of the show being fire and pitch forks. It’s certainly a ‘hellish’ experience, that’s for sure.
