Paula Deen News: The Neely’s Respond, Al Sharpton Kisses Up?, Casinos Drop Paula Deen and UPDATES
Paula Deen Scandal: Celebrity Cooks The Neely’s Respond and More News
Pat and Gina Neely are the stars of Food Network’s Down Home With the Neelys respond politically correct about the news on Paula Deen:
“We were shocked and saddened to learn of the comments from Paula Deen. Racism of any kind from anyone is simply unacceptable and cannot be tolerated…In our own relationship, Paula has shown us kindness and generosity. We trust that Paula’s apologies are sincere and hope there is a positive lesson to be learned from this situation.”
Rev. Al Sharpton responded as well on the Paula Deen scandal. He surely rubs us the wrong way. Here’s his response and then our take on it:
“A lot of us have in the past said things we have regretted saying years ago,” he replied. “I think she has a lawsuit now about activities now whether it was discriminatory. And whether or not she’s engaged in things now. It’s not about her past. … She deserves what’s fair, but that’s based on what she’s engaged in now.”
“You cannot deal with what is fair or not fair until we see an outcome of the present circumstances she is accused of, not something that happened 20 years ago,” he added.
Can we let loose? Is he CRAZY? He really bothers us because he marched for the rights of blacks and now he’s so high and mighty that he ‘understands’ everybody!! What does he stand for these days anyway?
Yes. She admits what she did in the past but how about the videos that were shown in court. Obviously, they were disturbing enough for many endorsers to pull away from her. What about the video she did last fall calling her security guard ‘dark as the board’ and ‘ we can’t see you standing in front of the black board’. Now , last fall is not ‘in the past’. In fact, that is very much a recent event and she should be judged that one.
We are sorry but Al Sharpton has lost all that he used to stand for and he needs to sit down and not respond to anything. He just looks like he wants attention and he appears to be kissing up to her. Also, Paula Deen tweeted and thanked him for his support. Wow!
Casinos Part Ways with Paula Deen today
The operator of the Horseshoe casino in Southern Indiana has become the latest company to distance itself from Paula Deen.
Caesars Entertainment, parent company of the casino boat, announced Tuesday (before her interview with the Today show) they would not renew their business relationship with Paula Deen Enterprises, which operates restaurants at four of the company’s properties.
Caesars said they came to a mutual agreement to part ways. Here’s what said:
“While we appreciate Paula’s sincere apologies for statements she made in her past that she recently disclosed during a deposition given in response to a lawsuit, after thoughtful consideration of their impact, we have mutually decided that it is in the best interests of both parties to part ways at this time,” said Jan Jones Blackhurst, executive vice president of communications and government affairs for Caesars Entertainment.
Last week, casino officials said Paula Deen’s Buffet in Tunica, Mississippi will stay open despite the celebrity chef and southern food connoisseur admitting to having used racial slurs in the past. Of course now that is overturned with their decision to not keep a business relationship.
Paula Deen has added a second cruise for 2014 with Royal Caribbean Cruises
While some of her partners have dropped her due to the racist scandal, she has consequently added a second cruise for 2014. Paula Deen’s camp stated:
“Due to so many requests from Paula’s fans in the past we are actually planning two cruises for 2014 and look forward to both,” the news organization quotes from Alice Travel cruise representative Julie Goodman Cook. “It’s always an amazing time with Paula, her family and fans. If she goes — we go.”
Royal Caribbean spokesperson also responded:
“Royal Caribbean has never had a partnership or any formal association with Paula Deen,” says Cynthia Martinez, the company’s director of global corporate communications. “She has sailed with our brands a couple of times, but as host of group cruises, and each time, the groups were booked through a specific travel agency, not through Royal Caribbean.”
The question may come up if the Alice Travel tries to later pull out of this but we think not. The agency, in our opinion, appears to share the views and demeanor of Paula Deen and will continue a relationship with her. Here’s what was reported about what Cook stated about the cruise:
Goodman Cook said previous Deen cruises have attracted a diverse bunch. “We have a group of gay people who go,” she said. “There are people in their 90s that go. … Black, white. I mean everything. Everyone enjoys it.”
Hmm. We think you can gather why we stated our opinion on this.
