Church Secretary Charged with Embezzling over $100,000 from St. Bernard Parish
A woman is accused of stealing more than $100,000 from the church where she worked. They call it embezzlement and they say she’s been doing it since 2006 at St. Bernard Parish, authorities said. Trinette Johnson, 39, turned herself in to the parish jail on last Friday after learning a warrant was out for her arrest for felony theft.
The Sheriff’s Office said it opened an investigation into the case after being asked by church officials.
A little history on Trinette Johnson states she was a longtime secretary and account executive for the Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
It was during a n audit is how the money was determined missing. After church’s board of trustees reviewed the audit report, she alleged that Johnson had misappropriated $101,872 in church funds since Aug. 16, 2006, the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
The Sheriff’s Office said it was presented with a letter in February signed by 33 members of the church that said the church wanted to pursue criminal charges in the matter.
