Former CNN’s Roland Martin on the ‘White Folks Won’t Promote Us Black Folks’ Tip
There has recently been a good deal of discussion about the diversity in the cable news world, as mostly white faces continue to dominate the coveted anchor chairs.
Speaking on HuffPostLive, Martin–who was recently let go by CNN–said that he had come to the network with every intention of getting his own show. He added that it was never made clear to him why that wasn’t happening, but that he suspected race had something to do with it.
“You have largely white male executives who are not necessarily enamored with the idea of having strong, confident minorities who say, ‘I can do this,'” he said. “We deliver, but we never get the big piece, the larger salary, to be able to get from here to there.” Watch video here
We are not sure what Roland Martin is talking about. He had a major role at CNN and was at the forefront from what we could see. Now, he may have wanted to ‘move up the ladder’ of success there but should he really expect white folks to give him all he wants? What he needs to do is stop complaining. It was obviously his time to leave the network and now its time to move on. We can complain about what white corporations won’t give us. It’s time to stop complaining about what we can’t get from them and build our own wealth. When will we ever learn this?
