Secular Producer Says Holy Hip Hop Should Not Be In the Church

There are many people who think hip hop, hip hop gospel or holy hip hop should be recognized as a authentic form of godly worship. Well, we found a secular music producer who has more reverence of God and the sanctity of the house of God than most will admit. He says the message can’t be interpreted over a banging hip hop beat. Producer Louis Rodger says its sad and the church is losing credibility.

See for yourself how a secular producer rebukes holy hip hop in the church:

I saw this video a couple of days ago, and I was amazed that it seemed these guys speaking in the video had more fear of God than “so-called Christians”!!!!

What an indictment against those who claim to be of Christ! These guys are not following Christ, but they are not claiming to be either. Jesus said:
Rev 3:15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
Rev 3:16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

I will be praying for both of these brothers I saw that they come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ!

Preach, Marcia. This is what amazed us too. He knows the truth more than those claiming to of the church. More people need to fear God as he has.

Fred Price & son, TD Jakes, Eddie Long and the like will be whipped unmercifully. After viewing that video, I can only pray that the Lord will have mercy on our young people and save them from themselves and from others that perpetuate their path to self-destruction.

  4. AT2W Staff says:

Yes, you are so right. Its utterly disgraceful to permit this kind of influence and sin in the church. We have to continue to pray for their souls as they still have an opportunity to make it right with the Lord.

    AT2W,

Let me ask you guys a question. A few weeks ago this blog praised the “Courageous” movie as a great Christian film. Movies are supposed to be “worldly”. So how come its OK to make “Christian movies” but not ok to make Christian rap/hip hop??

  6. AT2W Staff says:

2Pc, we have had this conversation with you a few times. We can’t change our views on this because its a mandate from God. We know you are a supporter of Christian rap and that is your choice. We don’t agree because rap overall is not ‘set apart’ from the world. Rappers usually talk, dress and act like the culture. Rap music is secular and it came from the world. How can we turn something from the world into something not of the world. The bible states: we are in this world but not of this world. This particular movie is Christian based. Though Christian rap is supposed to be Christian based, why do they emulate the rap culture? BTW, what did you think of what the producer stated in the video about holy hip hop?

  7. 2Pc says:

    AT2W,
Thank you for your willingness to have a dialogue about this topic.
As for the producer, he pretty much said what I expected. Hes talking about the outward appearances of sagging jeans, speaking slang and acting a fool in general. That opens up a another can of worms, because thats a parental guidance issue. But for me, the issue is can or does God use hip hop for his eternal purposes and I believe the answer is an emphatic YES!. A2TW, our God is sovereign over ALL things including the arts and if you take a rapper who’s been converted by the gospel then why not let him use that gift for the sake of the gospel?

God has mandated that we be separate from the world, yet Jesus commanded us to also be salt & light as well. I believe He wants us to not take over the world but REDEEEM all things for his purposes. Because whether you make movies or music, creativity is a gift of God and whatsoever we do, we should do it as unto the Lord.

Now I am not saying rappers should lead praise & worship or replace preaching as the main method of reaching lost souls. In fact I wouldn’t co-sign with none of the stuff I saw in that video. Sure, some pastors look for any way to draw the kids, some of whom were just looking for an excuse to dance anyhow. Don’t misunderstand me, I do not endorse all Christian rap. But I am convinced that God is using some of it nonetheless and I know that I’ve been blessed when I listen to Shai Linne rap about Christ and his work on the cross in a way that would shame preachers who preach every Sunday. In fact he and some other rappers are not just rappers but they are also theology majors headed for full time ministry so its not about just being entertaining.

Sorry for being long winded but in essence I’m saying let’s not throw the baby out with the bath water. I can’t change your mind either but trust me there are some great Christian rap artist out there who are using it to glorify God. Most of them don’t make any money from it (one of them I believe works as a janitor) and many of them still live in the ‘hood, so God has them right there in the midst of those folks who need to gospel the most. You asked why emulate hip hop culture and my reply is first off, not all hip hoppers look or act like thugs and secondly we know that a Christian who lives in that culture without being OF that culture can at least have an opportunity to go where the pastors and youth leaders cannot go. Just like you guys can reach people who Christian rappers can never gain access to.

Thanx again for listening. I’d just like to ask of you to PLEASE, PLEASE check out this article about Shai Linne’s new album “The Attributes of God”. Perhaps you’ll see why I support (some) Holy Hip Hop
