Pastor Jack Schapp’s Scandal Proves to First Baptist Church of Hammond Stronger Than Ever
The church members are very encouraged even after the scandal was exposed about their former pastor Jack Schaap two weeks ago.
They say the church deacon board has moved quickly in replacing Schaap and have installed an interim pastor as well. They have guest ministers stopping by to give them a word and they feel stronger than ever.
Eddie Wilson, spokesperson and public relations director for the church stated:
“But the church is actually more unified today than it ever has been,” Wilson continued. “There’s a sense of commitment on the member part to see that the church goes forward. We are 125 years old, a big congregation, and they are all very committed to making sure that the church succeeds. You get a real sense of unity, commitment, hope – it’s not all doom and gloom. The past two Sunday services have been exciting, they have been powerful.”
Though the church is excited about moving forward, they still keep close ties on the latest in the former pastor’s case.
“The investigation is still open, and they are saying that he could be charged at any time, but there are no new findings. We speak to the local authorities just about every day, just to find out what’s being done.”
