San Diego Teacher Kelly Watson Arrested for Sexual Relations with 17 Yr Old Student
Report issued by NBC stated Kelly McKenzy Watson faces charges of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor after she allegedly engaged in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old boy.
Consequently, Ms. Watson, 34, met the student when she was teaching at New Haven Youth and Family Services in Vista, Calif., a school dedicated to helping young boys with emotional and behavioral issues.
The special education teacher at the residential school from September 2010 to August 2011, before transferring to Oceanside High School in Oceanside, Calif.
Authorities believe that the relationship began after Watson left New Haven Youth. On July 30, a tip came to the attention of a sex crime detective that possible inappropriate sexual conduct.
“They met when he was a student of hers, and they later forged a relationship which was inappropriate and illegal,” San Diego police Lt. Anastasia Smith of the department’s Sex Crime Unit told NCTimes.com.
Kelly Watson is currently employed by Oceanside, though she’s been placed on paid administrative.
The CEO of New Haven Youth and Family Services was reported stating the school is “dismayed and saddened” by the allegations.
Watson is free on a $45,000 bail and she is set to appear in court on Aug. 20. (Note: The video below states her court appearance is on Aug. 13 though we believe the Aug. 20 date is correct).
