Oprah Sets Twitter Follower Straight About Her Giving to the Black Community

Oprah must have been compelled to comment on her Twitter page when one man asked her when she was going to give back to the black community. We can’t really imagine Oprah signing into her Twitter account and replying to just anyone but maybe it was brought to her attention and she thought she’d take the opportunity to set the record straight.

We wanted to bring this to light because many African Americans do assume that since her past talk show ultimately appeared to cater to a more white audience, she did not do for her own people per se. On the contrary, Oprah says she has contributed and here’s what the tweets look like.

According to news reports, Oprah has given over $300 million dollars. Here’s what she has done this far:

• In 2007, she opened the free residential school Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa,
• In 2009, she donated $1.5 million to a private middle school in inner-city Atlanta, Ron Clark Academy
• Winfrey has given $12 million to the HBCU and is also Morehouse College’s largest contributor
