Are Black Hair Shows Showing Us More Than Just Hair and Fashion?

We have been a bit concerned about the hair shows we’ve seen on video. The movie “Good Hair” focused on black hair but also the shows behind many lifestyles.

We will focus on one particular hair show that has been popular for several years: The Bronner Bros International Hair Show. We chose this one because it has a prominent reputation in Atlanta and around the world. The Bronner Bros were started and founded with Nathanial Bronner and other siblings in 1947. They are responsible for Bronner Bros. hair products, beauty schools, beauty shows and hair shows.

black hair showsThey are not only entrepreneurs but are Christian men as well. Though Bishop Dale Bronner is more popular than the others today, “the Bronner family also founded The Ark of Salvation Worship Center, which Rev. Nathaniel Bronner, Jr., Rev. Charles Bronner and Rev. James Bronner. This ministry produces television broadcasts throughout the week as well as some leading online ministries.”

We know Bishop Dale Bronner of Atlanta is a descendant of the Bronner Brothers company but we are concerned about the worldly exhibit of non-Christian activities tied to the performances of the Bronner Brothers Hair shows. Six brothers are owners of the company at this time and four out of six of them are pastors. Even though they are Christian pastors and this is a family business, can it be separated from their faith?

Bronner Bros Hair showsWe know this may not be a popular subject for many and many may not like it but for a Christian based business, there’s a lot of darkness and glorifying of other lifestyles and activities that are not Godly. We know the hair shows are popular but as Christians, can we really support them?

I personally do not see why these shows are necessary in the first place. I know they are trying to promote their salons, but how they do their presentations at these shows is problematic for even the Christian salon owner. And then to have a event helmed by four pastor brothers, one has to really ask is Christ being glorified in this. The Bronner brothers have a program on The Word Network called Brothers of the Word and you would think that they would set some standards, but they seem to fly out the window. I think that we as black Christians should not be so quick to accept this kind of event, especially among salon owners and barbers that are Spirit- filled believers.

I am so disheartened because I really listen to Dale Bronner every Sunday online.

But you know what I really would like to know, what kind of ingredients are in his products. Do you know that hair growth products cause little girls to mature earlier and women to get reproductive cancer.

Black women, let us love ourselves the way we are.

Also, let us stop letting the gay boys define what is good entertainment. Now I love me a hair show, but this seems off the chain right here!

Yes, Christians should have nothing to do with this. Its just a shame they have been doing it for years and can’t see the wrong in it for the money.
