This news about popular gospel artist, James Fortune does not surprise us, because it seems like most of the singers and musicians within the gospel music industry have no conscious. Since most of them have blended their music to satisfy European mainstream audience, no telling what news maybe revealed to the public. In our opinion, the gospel music industry has a lack of standards and no news could ever be worse. However, in this particular case, it seems like God is revealing the actual soul of who James Fortune really is.
How could can adult harm a child? When we are discussing child abuse, we are not insinuating corporal punishment, but we are hearing that James Fortune allegedly burned his stepson and years after the physical abuse, the child’s body is yet half-burned. Guess why? Just for allegedly coloring on the table in the classroom when he was only 4-years-old. How many children scribble on anything they can find when they have color crayons in their hands? Since Crayola has been in business, there probably have been millions of children who just colored on anything without even realizing what they were doing. No biological or step-parent has the right to run scalding bath water all because their 4-year-old child was simply being a kid. Are these the type of gospel artists we have singing to us today? No wonder, many of them do not like to call themselves ministers of music, but instead entertainers compared with secular music artists. No wonder, many of these gospel music artists can so easily collaborate with secular music artists for fame and fortune, simply because they may not be seeking God and asking Him to cleanse them from everything wicked within their souls.
We pray that James Fortune and his wife, Cheryl have repented by now, because we cannot imagine what it is like looking at their child with the burns allegedly caused by his stepfather.

The lawsuit does appear to have merit, since the child was only 4 at the time and Fortune did plead to the offense. They didn’t have money in 2001, but they have money now, so the boy should be compensated. $5 mil is a little steep, but I’m pretty sure there will be a settlement and he’ll get something.
We agree there will be an award, but $5 million is too much. This is very sad that this gospel singer did this to his step-son. Although, it is the past, the child and his father will always look at the burns. God bless and stay strong in Him.
