Jennifer Hudson Breaks Down in Tears At Family Murder Trial and More News
Jennifer Hudson on the stand:
On the first day of the trial for William Balfour, Jennifer Hudson was brought to tears when she testified on the stand on Monday. Balfour is accused of murdering her mother, brother and nephew in 2008.
Hudson cried when prosecutors asked her to recollect the last time she saw her family which she stated was just days before the tragedies occurred.
She testified that when she heard of the news, she flew out to Chicago to identify the bodies of her three family members.
The tears began to flow more when the prosecutor handed her a picture of her mother.
Most relevant to the case … Hudson told jurors no one in her family wanted her sister to date William Balfour, the man accused of the triple murder. She said she always tried to keep her distance from Balfour.
Hudson says she never , EVER liked Balfour … saying, “not even in grammar school.”
Jennifer Hudson knew the accused killer of her family since elementary school days.
Jennifer told the court she tried to keep her distance from William whenever she thought he would be around … saying, “Where he was, I tried not to be. So if I saw him, I separated myself.” Source
Other news reports quoted to saying: “We didn’t like the way he treated her, and I didn’t like the way he treated my nephew,” she testified.
Balfour’s Defense Motion:
Reuters stated that the Balfour’s defense attorney has a interesting idea that Balfour had nothing to do with the murders and that Jennifer Hudson’s brother Jason was a drug dealer:
Public defense attorney Thompson told the jury that Jason Hudson was a drug dealer and had been shot twice previously, causing him to lose part of his left leg.
The police “did nothing to determine if it might have been Jason Hudson’s violent business that led to him getting shot twice before, that led to these murders,” Thompson said. She also noted that the Hudson family lived in Englewood – “probably the most dangerous neighborhood in Chicago.”
Asked during cross-examination if she knew what her brother did for a living, Jennifer Hudson said, “I don’t really know.”
Sister Julia Hudson takes stand:
Julia Hudson testified on Monday that her husband became jealous when she got gifts from other people, and was jealous even of her son, telling Julian not to kiss her. His nickname for Julian, a second grader getting straight A’s in school, was “the little monster,” she said.
She separated from William Balfour in February 2008, Julia Hudson said, and three months later he begged her to come back. When she said she could not, Balfour said he would kill her family, she testified.
“If you leave me, you’ll be the last to die,” Julia Hudson said Balfour told her. “I’m going to kill your family first.”
The day before the murders had been Julia’s birthday, and prosecutors said Balfour had been enraged at seeing at the house balloons bought by another man for Julia. Source
Julia Hudson also testified that though she eventually separated from Balfour in 2008, she continued to have sexual relations with him for months up until the time of killings. She testified that he threatened to kill her and her family more than two dozen times, but she never went to the police or filed an order of protection. “I didn’t believe him,” Julia said in court.
