Trayvon Martin’s Killer George Zimmerman Arrested and Charged with 2nd Degree Murder

Can anyone believe we are finally seeing some real justice in this case? Read AT2W’s Take after the report:

George Zimmerman, the 28-year-old neighborhood watchman who shot and killed Trayvon Martin on Feb. 26 in Sanford, Fla., has been charged with second-degree murder in the 17-year-old’s death. Zimmerman is being held without bail.

“Just moments ago we spoke by phone with Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin,” Angela Corey, the special prosecutor investigating the case, said at a news conference in Jacksonville. “Three weeks ago our prosecution team promised those sweet parents we would get answers to all of their questions, no matter where our quest for the truth led us. And it is that search for justice for Trayvon that has brought us to this night.”

“We did not come to this decision lightly,” she said, declining to discuss specifics of the investigation. “We do not prosecute by pressure or petition … We’re law enforcement. We enforce the law.”Source

Reuters.com detailed the question about: What is second degree murder?

Florida’s jury instructions (which are based on the Florida statute) spell out three elements that prosecutors must prove to establish second degree murder beyond a reasonable doubt:

  • The victim is deceased,
  • The victim’s death was caused by the defendant’s criminal act, and
  • There was an unlawful killing of the victim “by an act imminently dangerous to another and demonstrating a depraved mind without regard for human life.”

The last element — an “imminently dangerous” act that shows a “depraved mind” — is further defined by Florida’s jury instructions. Three elements must be present:

  • A “person of ordinary judgment” would know the act, or series of acts, “is reasonably certain to kill or do serious bodily injury to another”;
  • The act is “done from ill will, hatred, spite, or an evil intent”; and
  • The act is “of such a nature that the act itself indicates an indifference to human life.”

AT2W’s Take: We will never, ever believe that the Sanford police believed that it finally came to this decision after a hard look at the investigation. It is a clear as the noses on our faces that a real police investigation would know that someone was killed and someone has to take responsibility for that murder. There are no gray areas in this fact. It’s only true police work. If the Sanford Police department can’t see they caused all of this ruckus and racial tension, then they need to be closed down immediately. What a shame and a cruel game to play on the Martin family and any human being on earth. Shame on them for being the most irresponsible and frankly racist police department on the planet!!
