Terry McMillan’s ‘Waiting To Exhale’ Sequel Will Continue on Without Whitney Houston
We know that over a year ago, author Terry McMillan was trying to get the original cast together from her 1990’s book to movie ‘Waiting To Exhale’ to do her sequel, ‘Getting To Happy’. The last report we made was that every cast member had confirmed they would work on the sequel except Whitney Houston. Those cast members would be: Angela Bassett, Loretta Devine, and Lela Rochon. Terry McMillan was trying to confirm with Whitney but we never heard word that she would do the movie or not.
Who Got The Role reported:
The sequel to the hit Waiting to Exhale, is still in development despite the sudden death of star Whitney Houston.
“It’s almost in [Houston's] honor that we think to soldier on,” Fox 2000 president Elizabeth said.
A rep for Fox studios confirms that the movie, which is based on Terry McMillan’s best-selling novel, starred Houston, Angela Bassett, Loretta Devine, and Lela Rochon as a group of friends dealing with their many relationship problems.
The follow up to the 1995 hit will be adapted from McMillan’s book ‘Getting to Happy.’
Oprah Winfrey reportedly may take a role in the upcoming film, which has been in development since 2010 with Exhale director Forest Whitaker attached.
No start date has been finalized as of yet, more details to come…
