When Gospel Music Artists Appeared On Soul Train, Why Couldn’t They Win Don Cornelius to Jesus Christ?

In asking why anyone in particular couldn’t be won to Christ; we have to remember that it’s the Holy Ghost that does the drawing and Satan blinds every sinner to the wondrous light of Jesus Christ. Then we that are saved; God called us before the laying of the foundation of the world and God says, he will save whom he will. Everybody is not going to be saved. That is why we get to call ourselves a chosen generation (1 Peter 2:9). Most of the people listed in the above article are not about salvation but furthering their own image. But the way that I see it is that we are all responsible as saints of God who do really know Christ to go about evangelizing. I’m just resurrecting a knock on the door ministry in the church where I pastor. Most people that hear that knock will immediately assume that we are Jehovah’s Witnesses, because the Church in general only evangelizes in the Church. Lastly, the Church as a whole needs to re-think judging. That is the main reason that most people don’t evangelize because they don’t want to judge. While the Bible says to cry aloud, spare not, lift up our voices like a trumpet; the Church sits in silence afraid that someone will say that we are judging. When has the world ever stopped judging the Church? Let’s all get it together and get out there and tell someone, anyone that they need to be saved, because it’s good to be saved.
God Bless You,

@pastorsherryblack I agree with your comments wholeheartedly, most churchfolk today are ‘Sunday only’ christians who are not taught nor interested in evangelism, they’re too comfortable in their complacency and know only ‘Churchianity’ and sit year after year under (not all) pastors who themselves are not well versed in the scriptures, many believe that as long as they show up, pay tithes and get their ears tickled for the day they’re good to go, then live like everybody else during the week; this coming Sunday over half of the congregants will be more concerned about getting out early for the Super Bowl than somebody hearing the truth and getting saved, I don’t mean to sound so critical, but facts are facts, and from the conversations I have engaged in,
I can count on one finger how many professing christians have any real interest in the things of God….
Many Christian singers have wasted tremendous opportunities to share their testimony for Christ, I remember seeing an episode of Soul Train when Marvin Gaye made a public confession of Jesus as his personal savior, he received a round of applause for it, even though he had many personal issues he was bold in his faith…
Christian performers need to stop “being ashamed of Christ” Rom 1:16
They have the eyes and ears of millions on a public forum, you never know who you may reach or influence by your testimony, someone may be discouraged, hurting or just need to hear the right word at the right time in their life, though you might not witness it remember, the WORD says: “One man plants, another waters but God gives the increase..”
1 Cor 3:6
No ones being introduced to the Gospel when ‘you don’t bring Christ out on the stage’ with you…
Hi Jerry, you really added to this post. It is great to know Marvin Gaye was not ashamed to profess salvation before the world, something many gospel artists of this era fail to do. They would just rather show they are like the world and make no mention of their connection with Jesus Christ. Many of them should not have just went on their to promote their music, but their main focus should have been to be difference and show Don Cornelius and the Soul Train dancers and viewers they have such a great walk with God, they would have wanted so much to join them.
Many gospel artists these days even have agreed with their producers and music managers to subtract the name ‘Jesus’ out of their music, so when they went on Soul Train, how could Don Cornelius and even those around him even desire to get to know Jesus Christ? Therefore, yes indeed, we agree there is no reason to sing gospel music, if you are not going to include Him in your songs are even bring Him out on the stage during performances.
God bless you and stay strong. -AT2W Staff
