Mama Foundation Gospel for Teens of Harlem, Rebirth of Spirituals
It very rare when we see a group of young people really singing out of their souls, these days. Usually, when we here gospel, it’s all about hip-hop, making the all mighty dollar, but these young anointed young people have been trained by Executive Director Vy Higginsen. These inspiring African American young singers come from all sorts of backgrounds. Under Higginsen’s direction they were encouraged to bring out their talent, regardless of being supported by their parents or not, as seen on television show, 60 minutes. Executive Director Vy Higginsen of Mama Foundation Gospel for Teens of Harlem is definitely making a mark in history.
Executive Director Vy Higginsen is truly an angel for African American youth, today, because she gives them hope in the midst of their personal crisis and even determination during a time of bereavement. The Gospel Teen Choir have been taught the history of real gospel music, which is spirituals when black people were enslaved in America. They realize what inspired gospel to be the greatest form of music and also that your life story is what creates spirituals that brings out sensational songs of triumph.
Executive Director Vy Higginsen is a blessing for this generation. In this era of the 21st century, we have not seen such an angelic soul who cares so much about the youth, teaching gospel music the right way. Therefore, certainly it is not the secular style that makes great gospel artists, but it is the spirituals that were created through many tears, struggles and painful testimonies. We have not seen such a positive elder as Higginsen who has taught gospel music the right way.
