Has Regina King Now Deceived Black Woman with Her Message?
As you may know, there was plenty of controversy regarding Regina King and her statement in mid 2010 about how she encouraged her black female friends to date ‘outside of the race.’
Many people went against her and many were for her. So we wonder what people will think when they hear what’s allegedly next on her agenda.
(That, we will speak on in a moment but we must cover some ground first.)
Now, if you followed the news on what she stated late May, then you’d know that she, at the time, agreed and encouraged that black women should date outside their race. Below is part of what she stated that rattled people:
“Of all groups of people, Black women are the least likely group of women that will date outside of their race. When you have everyone else who is willing to explore but a Black woman is like, “I want me a brother,” well, if the brothers are out and they’re open to date everybody and the majority of Black women aren’t willing to look twice when a man outside of their race is sending them messages, then that makes our percentage rate lower and the chances of finding love, because we’re only looking in one specific place for finding love—with Black men.”
“I think Black women need to open up. A lot of Black women still carry a lot of pain when they see Black men with women who aren’t Black and that’s really unfortunate that that could make us so upset. It has to do with self esteem.” – VIBE
Ok, well as you can see, she’s clear on what ‘she’ thinks black women should do. Let’s be real: If someone tells all of their close friends and then publicizes that black women should date outside their race, then that means that person would too, right? Well, I think her fans and black women in general may not like the fact that Regina King says all of this, which got a lot of attention, but has been dating The Cosby Show’s Malcolm Jamal Warner.
It was stated in the news this last year that they had broke up around a year ago and some time later she issued that statement to the press. Allegedly, they have been back to dating and now she revealed in Essence Magazine that:
“Malcolm and I have a lot in common… we’ve both been child actors and were also blessed to be raised by incredible mothers who instilled good values in us. Things are maturing nicely…”- Essence.com
Though it doesn’t matter to us one way or the other who she dates, its always the celebrity life that ultimately reveals who they date. In that statement, it surely sounds like they have some connection. But our issue is this:
If Regina King thinks its ok to ‘date outside the race’, then why would she allegedly be dating a black man? Though the thought of it may not be out of the question, what she encouraged thousands and maybe millions of black women to do might cause some damage now. We heard of a lot of static due to her statement back then and we think she may have given some black women less hope to finding what many of them may have ultimately wanted: a Black Man.
The point is: Now that many black women took her statement and ran with the idea of dating outside the race, apparently SHE’S GOT HER A BLACK MAN! Allegedly, she is still dating Malcolm Jamal Warner, a black man and we just wonder what effect does this have on the black women who gave up hope? Because we’ve researched the topic and many women truly have due to this message.
Obviously a celebrity can essentially do what they want and everyone thinks its alright. They come out in the media and tell us their life story, views and ideas and many of us take what they say to heart like they are experts in the field of life. Many people live by their words and then we are surprised when they betray or disappoint us when they suddenly change their minds.
This should be a lesson to many people. We can not idolize celebrities and live by their every word. Many of them just really aren’t role models. But if Regina is being hypocritical regarding her thoughts, ideas or suggestions for black women, then it must be stated. Maybe if Regina King can allegedly find a ‘black man’ which she may ‘prefer’ anyway, then can’t others do the same? We understand that many black men will date or marry other races in a heartbeat for many reasons, this does not mean a black women can’t find a good one.
Remember, what God has for you IS for you. So, if you want a good black man, you have to lean on God, believe in His word and promise and He will deliver. The key is waiting on God, no matter what society tries to tell you if you humble yourself to HIM, not man, your FATHER will answer your prayers.
UPDATE: Source stated: “Malcolm and Regina knew each other since the ’80s, but two years their friendship blossomed into romance. They recently found a place together in Los Angeles and (they) are living as a family with her teenage son.” But Regina King stated on Access Hollywood Monday: “No, we’re not engaged”. They’re still an item though which does not change our viewpoint.
