Is Derek Blanks’ Alter Ego Photos Turning Women Out?
We wanted to do an article on a well known photographer based in Atlanta, GA named Derek Blanks. He’s very well known in Hollywood and amongst many black celebrities. Many of them turn to Blanks for their photo shoots. Many of his photo shoots produce some great work. He has a sense of creativity that is unmatched.
Though some ranges from comedy to drama to animation to horror styles, we must say that its not for every audience. We will get to that point soon.
In an interview, Derek Blanks admitted that he is getting a lot of exposure by photo shooting a particular theme. This theme he’s speaking of is called “Alter Ego”. The meaning of alter ego from Wikipedia is:
An alter-ego (Latin, “the other I”) is a second self, a second personality or persona within a person, who is often oblivious to the persona’s actions. It was coined in the early nineteenth century when dissociative identity disorder was first described by psychologists. A person with an alter-ego is said to lead a double life.
Now we aren’t going to take everything from the definition of “alter ego” as true for every subject that posed for an ‘alter ego’ shoot, but we will make one point: We do believe that though we wouldn’t say that his subjects have experienced a ‘dissociative identity disorder’, we do believe that the ‘alter ego ‘ theme appears to bring out some kind of obsession or fascination for gay women on the photographer’s part, the subjects or both.
We were told by a reader of AToast2Wealth.com that they were concerned about what the ‘alter ego’ photo theme was really telling the viewer about the photographer and/or the subjects, which would be some of the women that have posed as an alter ego for Derek Blanks.
So, we did some research on Derek Blanks and found quite a few alter ego photos of black women posing. We must note that while searching for as many of these themed photos, we found that at least 90% of the photos of women posing for this theme, posed as a man and a woman or as two women as lovers. This basically means that a woman would dress as man and then later as a woman and when its all put together, this one woman has portrayed herself in the photo as a man and a woman in a love relationship. Also, many of them showed this one woman posing as two different women which portrayed a lesbian relationship. Its a little hard to translate but we hope you get the picture.

So, our question is this: Does Derek Blanks have a fascination for gay women and initiates this through his subjects photo shoots? Or does the subject initiate this kind of alter ego pose as gay or lesbian in the photo because she is displaying who she really is? Is Derek Blank’s alter ego helping women come out of the closet or is this a twisted game that some are fascinated with the gay lifestyle?
We know some will not agree with us. We know that many will feel that Blanks is just being creative in his work. Well, we have to beg to differ. Oh, yes we know he’s being very creative that’s for sure. Also we know he is not the only person to try this, surely. But what message is being sent? Is this just a way to possibly let out his homosexual feelings? Is he possibly fascinated with the gay lifestyle and does so by using women subjects? It certainly seems like he’s finding a way to promote ‘the lifestyle’ in one fashion or another.
We must mention that many of his subjects posing as alter egos may be some of your favorite singers and actors like: Jennifer Hudson, Bre (Top Model), Eva (Top Model), Melissa Ford, B Scott, Kenya Moore, Fantasia, NeNe Leaks, Kelly Rowland, Reagan Gomez and many more. (We didn’t included many photos that were indecent and not appropriate for the general audience. If you want to see those, then you need to google ‘derek blanks’ or jennifer hudson alter ego.)
The problem is this: Are we so enthusiastic about the homosexual lifestyle that we must portray it in any fashion? Though many of these alter ego photos of his are not appropriate for children, it certainly does not get approval from God. Surely, He is not pleased with this because it glorifies a lifestyle that is not in line with his word.
We think this is something to think about with all of the laws changing in favor of the gay initiative. Do we want to support artists or photographers that promote a lifestyle unfavorable to God?
