Terry McMillan’s “Getting To Happy” From Book to Movie

New York Best Selling author Ms. Terry McMillan is finally back on the scene. This is truly a pleasure to hear because she was really the one to give some real heart felt and true depictions of life, love, and pain.

We all remember her hit best selling  novel “Waiting to Exhale” and the  movie as well were hits we will never forget. Well now she’s back again after years of waiting to read another thrilling story. She has a new book out now which is long awaited  called “Getting To Happy”. Here’s an editorial review of the book from Booklist:

Getting to Happy
Fifteen years after the success of Waiting to Exhale (including a film version), McMillan returns to her quartet of friends, living the black middle-class good life—with all its ups and downs—in Phoenix, Arizona. Savannah, who still narrates most chapters, is working for a local television station and slowly watching the thrill leach out of her marriage, which came late in life when she’d given up on her prospects. She’s now facing the realities of dating in middle age (from Viagra to online dating services). Her friend Robin is raising a teenage daughter and is so stressed by her boring accountant job that she’s hooked on shopping and an assortment of pills. Bernadine is recovering from the spectacular failure of her second marriage and coping with the knowledge that her daughter is gay. Gloria has a successful hair salon, beautiful grandchildren, and a wonderful marriage, until disaster strikes. They’re all facing the challenges of midlife, disappointment in love relationships, the fear of starting over personally and professionally, and the constant worry over their now adult and adolescent children. Fans of McMillan will enjoy catching up with this ensemble of friends and, as this novel has been optioned for a movie, can look forward to seeing the transition to film. –Vanessa Bush

So, now you now that the movie version is coming out as well. Terry was able to get everyone of the woman from the first movie “Waiting To Exhale” (which grossed domestically$67,052,156 and
Worldwide $81,452,156 in 1995) to agree to the upcoming sequel
“Getting To Happy” …..but there’s one little problem. She’s hasn’t received confirmation from Whitney Houston.  Let’s just hope Whitney can get into the groove. If not, we are sure she will find someone who will be worthy of the role. Terry McMillan made serious money in the double digits of millions on the last book and movie and though she questions if the public will respond to a movie about 50 something black women, we are sure it will be a hit.
