The famous song in 1978, “You Light Up My Life” was written by accused rapist Joseph Brooks who is on trial for raping 11 women in his Upper East Side Manhattan apartment who answered movie advertisements placed in craigslist.  The women claimed they were raped between 2005 and 2008.  Prosecutors are bringing more charges against the 71-year, claiming more women have forward and admitted that Joseph Brooks also lured and raped them during the time of the other 11 women.  The judge in the case said there will be 2 separate trials that differ from the other 9 cases.

Although, Joseph Brooks pleaded not guilty to all charges, he faces 25 years in prison.

Why would this once successful songwriter lure these women up to his apartment?  It seems as though he had a lot a time on his hands.  Instead of writing more songs that could have won him more Oscars, he wasted his time placing ads on Craigslist for 3 years.  Life does not stop for you when you reach a certain age, meaning anyone can become even more successful than when they were younger, because they proceed to remain active, but doing right, not wasting the rest of their days taking advantage of other people.  Joseph Brooks was intelligent in 1978 to touch many hearts and bring many relationships together through his beautiful song, “You Light Up My Life”, he could have continued to retain the same recognition.  Now all of those women will remember him as a rapist and not someone who was gentle and kind to really give them a job as actresses.

Hopefully all of these women who were sexually assaulted by Mr. Joseph Brooks will emotionally recover and women who hear about their cases never trust anyone through any advertisements, even if they say their are famous.
