Raul Xazziel Ramirez was a third-grader at Glen Cove Elementary School in El Paso.  Last Friday, the 7-year-old was gunned down in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, known to be a high crime city.  He had just moved to live with his Uncle and Aunt and had only been registered in his first semester.  Students are sad by the news as parents are speaking out to the press, regarding their child’s grievances.

More than 2,200 killings have been recorded this year in Ciudad Juarez, out of a population of approximately 1.5 million people and A bloody turf war between warring drug cartels that started last year has made the city one of the most violent in the world.  Ciudad has 10 murders a year and this past September reported almost 500 murders.  About 90% of the city’s homicides are drug-related.

Earlier this year, a 3-year-old girl was killed together with her father inside a vehicle, which is a frightening devastation.

Raul Ramirez’s father, 35, was shot and killed in the driver’s seat as Rual tried to escape, he was shot in the back.  About 18 rounds from a 9 mm weapon were shot at the white 2000 Geo Tracker, purposely targeting the victims.  Police suspect drug cartel activity was the cause in the killings of Raul and his father.

Raul was visiting his father in Juarez during the tragedy, it is so sad at a very young age, he did not expect to die and witness such a massacre.

The drug cartels in Mexico has dominated so much crime, some cartels there have a connection with the Columbian cartels.  It is so dangerous, many people fear for their lives while visiting relatives.  We assume this is why Raul was staying in Texas with his Aunt and Uncle to avoid such a short life.  Possibly, Raul’s guardians was protecting him from whatever criminal activity his father was involved in.  Obviously, they knew what has been going on in the city of Ciudad, but never expected such a sudden tragedy and for their nephew never to return to El Paso, Texas.
