Ok folks, here’s one that will really raise your eyebrows. Serena Williams and several other very toned and fit famous sport figures are baring it ALL for ESPN’s Oct Issue appropriately named “The Body Issue”.
Now folks.. we are being very, very discreet here. The photo to your left here of Serena Williams had to be cropped because she is truly posing completely NAKED!! (If you haven’t noticed, our blog reports on all subjects but we want it to remain suitable for all audiences. So, sorry- you won’t find the whole picture here guys).
Serena has been reported stating that she has not always been happy with her body. She feels certain parts of her body are too big like her thighs and arms. She has said that she struggles with accepting her body image.
Well, it seems like she didn’t have any problems showing it up here on a national syndicated magazine like ESPN. Whatever complex she has must have faded by the wayside by now because no one can pose nude without some confidence. And confidence she has- on the tennis court as she dominates nearly every opponent she plays against.
When you think of Serena Williams and some of the things she has said about her own body, it reminds you of how some black women try very hard to change how they look. Whether its wearing weaves, wigs or trying to get bone skinny, they truly can not change how God has made them. All of those things are artificial and do not get to the point of the issue. Black women are uniquely different from any other race of women and she should be proud and grateful to be baked by the sun.
The world and society have always tried to dictate to all of us how we should look, feel and act to be ‘accepted’. This is ‘unacceptable’. Accepting ourselves as we are, is honoring God for making us unique and whomever doesn’t like it, so be it.
Hopefully, as we think about some of the complexes we all have of our own, we can say that we don’t have to BARE IT All to prove anything.
