2009 Nobel Peace Prize Winner-President Barack Obama?
October 9th, 2009

And the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize winner is….President Barack Obama!
Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded because of his “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.”, says CNN reporter. The committee had nominated Obama last year in September before he was announced the 44th President of the United States. The nomination was not publicly known at the time so this was not only a surprise to the President but to many others as well.
It is no surprise that the committee says that “only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future.” He was and remains to be a controversial yet compelling public figure. It is refreshing to know that a president in the present day and time can be awarded with such honor. Thought we have had many others before him, they have not matched his ability to capture the humanness of a society and bring people together to convert our current global crises. This reminds of one recipient: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Though Obama can not match his stature, he has been coined as the one to realize MLK’s unfinished dream.
Kudos to Obama. May he walk in honor of those whom have deserved and been awarded before him and carry on with a renewed spirit of openness and values to help shift our country’s current global dilemmas.
What do you think of Obama’s honorable award of 2009 Nobel Peace Prize?
