Success Stories During This Recession: This Could Be You
October 3rd, 2009
Tanea Smith of Brooklyn, New York, launched her business, “She’s Got Papers” in 2008. She created a collection of stationary specifically designed for baby girls, teen girls, and women. You see, Tanea Smith chose a to create a venture she enjoying doing. A lot of people became successful, because they spent time making a profit from their own hobbies. This is what Tanea did and this is why she is not suffering during this recession. Tanea’s company sells to moms, women’s groups, and celebrity organizations. From a girl, Tanea always loved to write poetry. She teamed up with a very talented graphic artist, Denise Biondo who does a great job on the stationary’s art work. She did research on how to retain total ownership of her company and through guidance of her own she hired a business lawyer and a trademark lawyer and decided to organize She’s Got Papers as an LLC (she owns the trademark and copyright to the name She’s Got Papers as well as to her logo). Tanea Smith tells women “you have to be passionate about what you do and this is how you become a successful entrepreneur, loving what you do more than anything else.” She also advises women to do a lot of research on any business they desire to start and when doing so, make sure you surround yourself with people who support your dream”. That last suggestion is very good, because people who do not support you will destroy your vision and you never want to give your power over to people who are jealous of you and do not have any desire to succeed themselves; therefore, these sort of people are toxic.
Life Is Wonderful When Mother & Daughter Can Make Money Together
Together, Jeanne Roth, an entrepreneur, and daughter Leslie Smith, an elementary teacher formed L’il Darlins, LLC to create must-have accessories for moms, infants and toddlers. They had a dream and had a burning desire to make it come true. It is a wonderful thing to see mother and daughter start a business and actually earn profits together from a good idea. Although, they both admit it was difficult finding a manufacturer within the United States they could rely on, they did not quit and their dream came true. They found a reliable manufacturer in Trenton, NJ called Harris Manufacturing Inc.
Leslie Smith thought of her 3 daughters and this is what gave her the drive to start this business. First, they created a body bib for infants and toddlers, called the Bibaroo(TM). Because Jeanne is such a good seamstress, she was able to create the prototype of the bib, which protects the baby’s clothes from spills and stains. When you think about, this was a multi-million dollar idea. How many babies spill food and drink all over their clothes? Lots of them.
The good part about this mother and daughter team is they love working together. One of the most important things about working with your parent, spouse, sibling or friend, is you have to be able to have a good relationship. If you do not, it could ruin your chances of making money. However, do not give up, if you think starting a business with someone you do not get a long with, because it just may make the both of you closer, just a tip.
