The director Roman Polanski was immediately arrested by Swiss police as he flew in for the Zurich Film Festival where he was about to receive an honorary degree. He faces possible extradition to the United States for having illegal relations with a 13-year-old girl back in 1977. The authorities had been looking for Mr. Polanski since 2005. He escaped from the United States to France in 1978, after pleading guilty for his illegal relations with the underage girl. As he faced the judge in California, he asked if the case be dropped since the first judge is now deceased who had arranged a plea bargain, then changed his mind, but his request was denied. The judge said Mr. Polanski never appeared in court this is why the case never dismissed. The victim, Samantha Geimer who originally went public years ago agrees that the case should be dismissed, because she and Mr. Polanski had came to a settlement. His transfer to the United States will take 60 days.
